Today's Gospel Reading: Matthew 13:44-46 - SEVENTEENTH WEEK OF THE YEAR: Wednesday, 1 August 2018
The Gospel reading tells us that our meeting the Lord Jesus is like finding a treasure or discovering a pearl. The emphasis is on the discovery.
In the last analysis, every person must find the Lord on her or his own. There is no special grove or shrine to which we have to journey. The longest journey is inward because God is within us as powerfully as He is in the rest of the universe.
One vehicle for this inner entry is meditation. If we take the time to meditate, we will be undertaking the most ancient and demanding kind of pilgrimage where we are certain to find the Lord. Within ourselves, we discover His strength to live out the Gospel message.
The longest, loneliest and most rewarding journey is the pilgrimage inward.
