Monday February 2 -Presentation of the Lord in the Temple

Today is a beautiful feast which honors many persons in the story.
There is of course Jesus who comes to the temple  according to the Jewish custom .
The pidyon haben, (Hebrew: פדיון הבן‎) or redemption of the first-born son,[1] is a mitzvah in Judaism whereby a Jewish firstborn son is redeemed by use of silver coins from his birth-state of sanctity.

The redemption is attained by giving five silver coins to a Kohen (a patrilineal descendant of the priestly family of Aaron).

Than we have Mary who hears for the first time that a sword will pierce her heart. Joseph provides the redemption price of the poor, a pair of turtledoves.  for the rich it would be a lamb. according to the custom of that time.

Simeon says the prayer to God which we say every day at Night Prayer:

Luke 2:29-32New American Standard Bible (NASB)
29 “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 A Light [a]of revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

And let us not forget Anna:

36 And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in [years and had lived with her husband seven years after her ]marriage, 37 and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. 38 At that very [moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Beside this,  today is also the Feast Day of our Sister Patricia  and the anniversary
 of Sister Frances' Solemn Profession..
.
                                         Have a blessed Day, sisters and everyone.
