You have commanded us to keep your precepts diligently

St. John tells us "Search the Scriptures.
We should remember the Pauline rule in 1 Timothy Chapter 3"Give attention to Reading"
The word of God is a heart affecting book and whenwe begin to sing its praises it soon come home to us and sets us praying to be ourselves conformed to its teachings.

They walk in His ways.

 

The surest way to abstain from evil

Introduction to Psalm 119

Thoughts are from Spurgeon's Treasury of David

 

This psalm shines and shows itself among the rest as a star in the firmament of the psalms and as one of the first  and greatest of  magnitude.

 

It is called the  Alphabet of Divine Love, the Paradise of all Doctrines, the Storehouse of the Holy Spirit, the School of Truth, the mystery of all the Scriptures.

Matthew Henry's father. Philip Henry, advised him to take a verse of this psalm every morning to meditate upon, and so go over the psalm twice in the year. and that he said, will bring you to  be in love with all the rest of the Scriptures. All grace grows as love of the Word of God grows.

 

The psalm is alphabetical. Eight stanza commence with one letter and then another eight with the next letter  through the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

Franciscorp Visits the Monastery

The Franciscorp and their leaders, Father Rick OFM Coventual and Sister Caryn OSF visited us at the Monastery.
This group of College Graduates have volunteered to
give to the Church one year of their life  by serving the poor in Costa Rico and in Syracuse.
They told us their story and shared the Eucharist with us. We finished off the day with  pizza and soda.  A very wonderful group of young people and a promise of hope to the future Church

The Celebrants at our Feast of Saint Clare-Sunday Night

Frair Rick Martignetti OFM presided over the two days in honor of Saint Clare. He gave a beautiful homily on August 10th on Clare's idea of looking into the mirror and seeing Jesus Crucified and than instead of putting on rings and fancy clothes to put on the virtues that Jesus endorses, humility, compassion and love.

For the Mass Sunday, Friar Rick, spoke about being present to what really matters so that we have a transformation and come to know Jesus more closely. Present also in the picture left to right is, Friar Rick, Fr. Brennan Joseph OFM Conventual Staten Island and Guardian, Fr. Ray Lennon, SVD and former Provincial of the SVD's, Fr. Vincent Burke SVD, former missionary of Ghana, Fr. John Chang, pastor of St. Raphael's in Trenton, NJ

The Transitus of Saint Clare August 10, 2013p Friar Rick Martignetti OFM gave the homily this day

Friar Rick Martignetti OFM, Friar on left gave the homily at the Transitus and Friar Tom Barton, a Brooklyn Friar, shared his spiritual insights.
The Transitus was attended by The Secular Franciscan and our friends and added to the festive celebration.

Feast of Saint Clare- August 11th

May Saint Clare intercede for you and all your loved ones, living and deceased.

We are holding all our Friends, Relatives in our life of prayer especially at this time of her feast.

 

 

Tonight August 10th is our Transitus remembering our Foundseress Clare in her death .

Her last words on her death bed were"

 

 

Go in peace, because you will have a good escort. The One Who created you has already provided that you will be made holy. The One Who created you has infused the Holy Spirit in you and then guarded you as a mother does her littlest child”

Powerful Prayer

Saint Clare of Assisi

O glorious Saint Clare! God has given you the power of

working miracles continually, and the favor of answering

prayers of those who invoke your assistance in

misfortune, anxiety and distress; we beseech you,

obtain for us from Jesus, through Mary, His Blessed

Mother, what we beg of you so fervently and hopefully,

if it be for the greater honor of God and for the good

of our souls. Amen.

 

 

 

Friar Francis Walter OFM Visits Poor Clares in Chesterfield, NJ

 

Friar Francis Walter OFM, a good friend of ours, came to visit us from Rome, Italy where he is stationed as Definitor General to the Minister General of all the Friars in the Order of Friar Minor, Friar Michael Perry.

Friar Francis is a world traveler which is part of his job to visit the Friars in  all parts of the world.

Friar Francis likes the new Pope and when asked if he is honored to have the same name as the Holy Father he tells us he had the name first before the Holy Father; after all he was baptized Francis.

It was good to visit with him and to catch up on the news in Rome.

Safe trip back to Italy
